A monogram adds a personal touch by incorporating a letter, or a combination of letters, onto an item - often a name, a single initial, or a person’s full set of initials. While there are many methods to monogram an item, we specialize in machine embroidery with custom digitizing to ensure each piece is beautifully crafted and uniquely yours.
We get this question all the time! In short, a digital file is created for the embroidery machine to read, the item is carefully hooped and loaded into the machine, and then the design is stitched. Of course there’s a bit more to it behind the scenes, but we’ll spare you the technical details!
Sewing and embroidery both use a needle and thread, but they serve different purposes. Sewing involves constructing items like clothing from pattern pieces, while embroidery is the art of embellishing fabrics with monograms, lettering, appliqués, and decorative designs. Just like sewing, embroidery can be done by hand or machine. We specialize in machine embroidery, ensuring each piece is precision-crafted with professional digitizing for a flawless finish.
We also create items that require a sewing machine, such as hooded towels and stuffed plushies, and can assist with attaching certain patches. However, we do not offer alterations (hemming, garment resizing, etc.) or repairs (zippers, buttons, etc.). That said, we're happy to collaborate with your tailor or seamstress to ensure your needs are met. If you don’t have one, we can refer you to a trusted professional we've worked closely with many times!
Shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, towels, bags, hats & caps, blankets, saddle pads, etc. We have both commercial and flat-bed machines. If the item can clear the bobbin arm of a machine while hooped, and a needle can go through it, chances are it can be stitched!
While we make every effort to maintain full functionality of every item, some features, such as pockets, may be sewn shut during the process. Additionally, not all placements are feasible for machine embroidery. We're happy to discuss the best options to ensure a high-quality result.
Our approach to monogramming and embroidery is different from a typical monogramming shop. While you can choose from some of our most popular fonts, we don’t believe anyone should be boxed in and given only a handful of choices. Have something specific in mind or need to match an existing monogram? We have hundreds of fonts available, and can often find an exact match or something very close.
As part of our process, we provide digital proofs for your approval to ensure accuracy and give you a preview of how the design will translate into stitches. Once the digital is approved, we send a picture of the printed template on the actual item for final size and placement approval. While these steps may involve some back-and-forth and seem like a lot of "extra", our clients appreciate the attention to detail and clear communication our exceptional white-glove service provides. From the moment you place an order or drop off an item to the final stitch, you will know exactly what you’re getting!

However, as with any machine-operated process, there is always a level of risk involved. By submitting your items for embroidery or customization, you acknowledge and accept the following terms:
Risk of Damage: Machine embroidery and customization carry inherent risks, including but not limited to fabric distortion, punctures, misalignment, or other machine-related issues.
Replacement Policy: Topsy Stitches does not provide replacements for customer-supplied items in the event of damage. For this reason, we strongly advise against customizing items that are sentimental, irreplaceable, or of high monetary value.
Damage Resolution: If an issue arises during the customization process, we will make every reasonable effort to address it. Possible solutions may include additional embroidery, patches, or other repair techniques to maintain the functionality and appearance of your item.
By proceeding with our services, you agree to these terms and release Topsy Stitches from liability for any damage that may occur during the customization process.
